The Jesse Tree: Celebration of Advent
The Jesse Tree: Celebration of Advent and it’s meaning is here. What is the Jesse Tree? A Christian Christmas traditional, which shows the stories of the Bible and the lineage of Jesus. During the Advent season, each day you place an ornament on the tree. The ornaments have a symbol associated with a person within the Bible. Each ornament is accompanied by a scripture. It is a wonderful way to countdown to Christmas, during the season of Advent, because it keeps our mind on Christ- the reason for the season.
The tree is named after King David’s father, Jesse. The name comes from Isaiah 11:
“Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse
And a branch from his roots will bear fruit.
The Spirit of the LORD will rest on Him,
The spirit of wisdom and understanding,
The spirit of counsel and strength,
The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.”
(Isaiah 11:1-2, NASB)
I purchased my Jesse Tree from Oriental Trading for under $15. The tree is green felt with velcro backed felt ornaments. There is a guide for the ornaments with a corresponding scripture verse. I hung my tree in the kitchen for a constant reminder of the season. It is inspiring to think about all the remarkable people within the Bible, what they overcame, and their closeness with God. I encourage you to place the Jesse Tree in the center of your home, so you reminded throughout the day of the root of Christmas.
Therefore, this season keep Jesus close to your heart. In conclusion, believe in the power of the season, while remembering God doesn’t count the presents under tree, but rejoices in our acts of love.
May God Bless and keep you. Until we meet again…Merry Christmas,
